Diagnosis List for Registration According to SIR in Intensive Care in Sweden
This document contains ICD-10-SE diagnoses for:
a) Common diagnoses in general intensive care and thoracic intensive care (ICU and TIVA)
b) Common diagnoses in pediatric intensive care (PICU).
Some comments regarding these so-called ICU diagnoses:
The primary goal of using these diagnoses is to describe, in a nationally coordinated manner, which patients are subject to Swedish intensive care. This requires a consistent use, which is why the scope of diagnoses has been deliberately limited. Additionally, there are several diagnoses that may be of interest to track, perhaps especially diagnoses that we know or suspect have prognostic significance, even if they are not the primary reason for intensive care—such as malignancy or renal insufficiency. To manage this, each care episode must be assigned a “Primary ICU Diagnosis” from the following diagnosis list. If necessary, multiple ICU diagnoses from the list may be specified, but only one can be the primary ICU diagnosis. In addition to these, appropriate other ICD-10-SE diagnoses relevant to intensive care may be indicated. However, these diagnoses, which are not included in SIR’s diagnosis list, can never be the primary ICU diagnosis.
